At the Community Kick-Off meeting on July 24th, we heard from several residents that homelessness is an issue of concern in Manchester.  What do you think?

We have started going to other citys that don't have a problem dealing with vagrants. Concord, Portsmouth, Exeter, Portland, etc. They are worth the drive so our 4 year old doesn't have to step over a guy blocking the side walk with his begging sign. Seriously, this needs to get dealt with.

Should be based on what the organizations that deal with homelessness have learned. Are more resources needed or is something else needed?

Homelessness is a mess in this city, thanks to the opioid crisis and the fact that we have such great social services, everyone in the country seems to come here. I advocate re-purposing summer camps in their off season to be utilized as treatment centers. summer camp owners can get a tax incentives. Get the growing numbers of homeless people out of the parks and into these temporary centers now before winter.

Homeless has at the very least become more apparent in Manchester over the last 5 years. Addiction seems to be a contributor to these increases. I would like to see our city find a compassionate way to help addicts recover and rejoin society as productive workers. To really end homelessness we need to create systems that help people, not simply arrest or move all the people who need help the most.
